Wiltshire’s streets are cleaner than ever.
This press release might actually be accurate ...
Wiltshire’s streets have never been cleaner, according to the latest figures. The council is regularly assessed and inspected to see how it is dealing with litter, fly posting and graffiti. The latest figures showed that the county is cleaner than ever before and Wiltshire is performing far better than the national average.Figures for April to July 2009 showed that the amount of litter was less than half that of the national average. Keeping Wiltshire clean and litter free is a top priority and the work to achieve this includes providing litter bins in public open spaces, streets and pavements; regular mechanical street sweeping and litter picking by hand in towns and along major verges.Areas where litter is more of a problem are visited more regularly to ensure cleanliness standards are maintained at the highest level. The council also works with parish and town councils, community groups and private landowners to ensure the county is clean abnd tidy.Councillor Toby Sturgis, Cabinet member for waste, property and environment, said: “It is good to know that Wiltshire is performing so well against these national indicators. We want to make sure that our neighbourhoods are the cleanest they can be and we will continue to work hard to keep the county at its best. Keeping Wiltshire clean is something everyone should be part of. I would urge people to do their bit by taking their litter home and reporting those who drop litter, fly tip, graffiti or fly post.”To report littering, including fly tipping visit the councils website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk or ring the council on 0300 456 0100.
