The future of Trowbridge library.

Will County Hall be the best place for it?

Myself and Hilperton Parish Council are concerned about the future of the library and have been in contact with Wiltshire Council about it.

Below is the text of an email received from them.

'The proposal to relocate the current reference and lending libraries into a purpose designed area of County Hall is part of a wider refurbishment programme for that building. This programme, and the library element within it, was discussed at the Trowbridge Area Board at its meeting in January this year. At that meeting the Board directed that library officers work in concert with the BA14 Culture Group on the project and we have been liaising with BA14 since then. This liaison has included sharing the Design Brief for the new library and taking the Group's views forward into discussions with the designers. Views that have been worked into the project in this way include the need for adequate parking, a requirement for an engaging service offer for young people and the importance of clear signage. BA14 also noted the imperative of having an excellent marketing campaign for the new library when it is launched.

The library service has also recently conducted an extensive survey on the services our customers and potential customers would like to see in the new library. BA14 were consulted upon and agreed the content of the survey questionnaires and the results will be presented to the Trowbridge Area Board at its meeting on 1st July. The Board will also hear about progress with the design for the changes to County Hall, including the library element.

Specific dates for the completion of the new library have not yet been determined because the library element is but part of a much larger programme of refurbishment within County Hall and the staging of this work is yet to be finalised.

I hope that the above information is helpful.'
