Some roads and by-ways will be closed.

English Heritage has asked Wiltshire Council to close the A344 at Stonehenge on the night of the solstice.

A temporary car park will be set up in a field nearby and pedestrian access to the monument will be through the fields if dry and along the closed section of road if wet.

As well as the road a couple of footpaths straddling the A303 will also be closed to allow them to be used as an emergency off-road access if needed, and also to reduce the number of people crossing the A303 on foot.

Wiltshire Council has agreed to the restrictions, which are the same as in the previous three years. The police have supported the proposals, saying that the arrangements have been successful at the last few solstices.

The three orders are:-

Order A. Byway 12 Amesbury from a point approximately 500 metres south of its intersection with the A303(T) to its junction with the southern boundary of Larkhill Camp to vehicles, equestrians and pedestrians.

Order B. (i) A344 Amesbury from its junction with the A303(T) at Stonehenge Bottom to its intersection with Byway 12 Amesbury to vehicles, equestrians and pedestrians and (ii) A344 Amesbury from its intersection with Byway 12 Amesbury to a point approximately 360 metres east of Airman's Cross to vehicles and equestrians.

Order C. Byway 11 Amesbury from its intersection with the A303(T) to a point approximately 500 metres south to vehicles, equestrians and pedestrians.

These closures are to ensure public safety.
