Wiltshire's verges.
There are 102 areas of protected verge around the county.
The verges along our rural roads are cut twice a year, in May and October. One swath width (about one metre) is cut along straight roads with the rest left uncut. This system is beneficial to both wildlife and plants (and saves money). At junctions and some bends larger areas are cut to improve visibility.A and B roads are cut in June and October, except for the A350 and the A338 which are cut three times a year.Growth around junctions and road signs is monitored by the WC parish stewards (and parish councils) and cut when necessary.
