Free swimming to end in Wiltshire.
Another service cut by the unitary council.
The Conservative Cabinet at Wiltshire Council has decided to discontinue the free swimming scheme for young people and pensioners.Free swimming for under-16s and over 60s was a scheme introduced by the previous government. Now, the loss of government funding combined with the lack of cash at Wiltshire Council, following the expensive move to one council, means the free swimming will end.The decision was made at a meeting in Salisbury on Tuesday 14th September. Options to continue free swimming for old people or young people or both were dismissed because of the expense. If you in either age group and want a free swim, get down to your local pool quick - the scheme ends at the end of this month.
