Probable 'No' to town council land-grab idea.
Hilperton's boundary is unlikely to be changed.
It would seem that Trowbridge Town Council (TTC) will have to come up with a new idea to increase their income rather than wrest houses from Hilperton.A while back, TTC approached Wiltshire Council asking it to carry out a Community Governance Review. Amongst other ideas, TTC was suggesting that a couple of hundred houses in Hilperton be 'moved' into Trowbridge. This would increase the income to TTC but they always denied that this was their reason for asking for the review.Whether or not to conduct a full review is a decision reserved for the full council of WC and the council meets next on the 17th May.The agenda has now been published and the recommendation from officers is that 'No Governance Reviews be undertaken until at least after the 2013 elections. Minor amendments (normally single-figure adjustments) which can be considered under the Local Government Act 1972 be investigated as and when resources permit.' I am sure that this recommendation will be agreed by WC councillors.I have been in contact with WC officers about this issue pointing out the cost, should the exercise go ahead, and also the confusion that would be caused to residents. I'm pleased that my representations seem to have had an effect and could I thank Hilperton Parish Council and members of the public that also contacted WC to register their disapproval of the idea.
