A surprise Staverton decision.
I think it would be fair to say that Trevor Carbin and I had a surprise last night.

Following an excellent presentation by Staverton parish councillors and residents, we proposed that the Persimmon application to build across the route of the 'Staverton Diversion' should be refused (again), even though the road is not currently in the district plan.

After a long debate the vote was taken and our proposal was carried by ten votes to seven. Included in those that supported us were Trowbridge based Cllrs. James and Knight who, on Wednesday, had voted against us on the Leapgate matter.

An appeal on an earlier refusal is due to be heard later this year, and it is possible that Trevor and I, in conjunction with Staverton Parish Council (and WWDC?), will be able to convince the Planning Inspectorate that a corridor for the Staverton Relief road needs to be protected; without this 'final piece' in the 'East of Trowbridge distributor road system' the whole thing will look like the absolute disaster which WCC highways department seem intent on foisting on us.

Convincing the inspector will not be easy, but let's hope that, for the sake of Staverton residents and motorists alike, we can do it.
