Community Infrastructure Levy.

When this scheme is adopted in Wiltshire, who will control it?

To date, Wiltshire Council seems not to have shown any interest in this scheme.

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a government proposal which would replace the Section 106 system with a more direct way of steering a proportion of development profits to benefit communities.

Despite the council as a whole being rather slow to adopt the system, the suggestion is that Area Boards should control the money raised within their area. This would mean that if Hilperton had a development of (say) thirty houses, the CIL could be spent on 'improving' Trowbridge.

I feel that the money should be placed under the control of the relevant parish/town council so that it benefits the immediate area.

If the topic gets to be debated at the Trowbridge Area Board, it will be interesting to see whether the 'Trowbridge mafia' (as they have been called by a member of the public) close ranks to the detriment of the villages.
