The appointment doesn't take effect for a couple of months.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Sarah Rose Troughton as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Wiltshire to succeed John Bush when he retires on February 5 2012.

Sarah Rose Troughton has held several voluntary positions both within and outside the county for a number of years. She is currently Chair of the Chelsea Physic Garden, President of Community First/Youth Action Wiltshire and a Trustee of The Community Foundation for Wiltshire and Swindon.

Sarah lives near Swindon with her husband, Peter, and has three children and two grandchildren.

On her appointment, Mrs. Troughton commented: 'I am extremely proud to be taking on the historic role of Lord-Lieutenant from John Bush, who has been a wonderful ambassador for Wiltshire. The maxim of a Lord-Lieutenant is to: 'uphold the dignity of the crown'; John, with the support of his wife Pam, has done that proudly and has connected with people from all corners of this beautiful and diverse county. with its military connections, its historic city and towns, its thriving business life and countless voluntary organisations. His will be a hard act to follow.

It is of course an exciting time to be taking over at the beginning of Her Majesty's Jubilee year and I look forward to enjoying some of the celebrations to be held across the county.'
