Wiltshire Conservatives hit the disabled.
What was free, will cost £10.00 from next year.
Wiltshire Council has announced its intention to charge £10.00 for a disabled 'blue badge' for parking. The badges are currently free. The increase is being blamed on government changes to the rules on the issue of blue badges following allegations of misuse. The process will be 'centralised' with a company called Northgate being the provider. However, local authorities are able to choose how much people in their area pay. Northgate will charge £4.60 but, to cover the costs of its bureaucracy, WC will charge the maximum permitted by the government - £10.00. The new fee will take effect from the 1st of January. The decision on whether or not to issue a badge remains with local councils.WC will not be consulting disabled groups on the proposal as it says this has already been done at national level. There are a few days before the decision is ratified so, if you wish to object, contact Cllr. John Noeken, the cabinet member responsible for the decision to impose the charge. His email is john.noeken@wiltshire.gov.uk
