Following the decision by the Wiltshire Council conservatives in October to implement a new senior management model, Chief Executive Andrew Kerr took the option to apply for voluntary redundancy. The plan also involved one other member of the top management team going. However, none of the four corporate directors applied for voluntary redundancy so they had to apply for the three 'new' posts to see who stayed and who went.Mr. Kerr officially left the authority on November 11th (only two years after he was appointed) but, in practice, he hadn't taken an active role in the council since the decision to dispose of him was announced. His £145k pay-off looks even more disgraceful when you compare it with the 'statutory minimum' payments made to other staff at the council who had given many years loyal service.
