A handy stat about speeding.
Speeding is a contentious but real issue.
What does the evidence linking speeding with accidents show?Exceeding the speed limit is reported as a factor in 5% of recorded collisions. These account
for 17% of fatalities. At least one of either ‘exceeding the limit’ or ‘travelling too fast for the conditions’ were reported in 13% of all recorded collisions and these account for 27% of fatalities. So it would seem that by speeding you have between double and treble the chance of killing someone, possibly yourself, when you have an accident - or 'collision' as the police now say.
