Ernie Clark. Hilperton Division, Wiltshire Council.

I couldn't resist putting pen to paper.

The following is the text of my letter published in the Wiltshire Times today.

'The Trowbridge Town Council web site makes the bold claim that it is ‘serving a population of over 40,000’. I wonder how the council comes to that conclusion?

The recent census shows the population of Trowbridge as being somewhat less (about 32,000). Surely the town council isn’t claiming that it now serves the surrounding villages including Hilperton and Staverton is it?

Whilst the outlaying village dwellers may use facilities provided by the town council (such as the excellent museum) I would suggest that the villagers are ‘served’ by their respective parish councils.

Perhaps the town council would care to comment or, even better, correct their web site.

Cllr. Ernie Clark,

Chairman, Hilperton Parish Council.'

It will be interesting what response, if any, comes from the town council.
