There is still time to register for the new electoral roll.
Registration forms were originally sent to every household in early September, and reminders are being sent out from 10 October to those people who have not yet responded. Completed forms have to be with the Council by Friday 28 October to guarantee inclusion in the new register, which is published in December.

The Council has introduced a new system this year to help people confirm their electoral details. If the information on the form is complete and correct for the household, this can be confirmed either by freephone or via the Internet (details of which are on the registration form), saving people the trouble of posting the paperwork back. However, anyone wanting to make any changes must fill in the form and send it back to the Council.

Principal elections officer Caroline Nash said: “The new system of confirming correct registration details over the phone or via the Internet has been very successful, and we are very pleased to have received 75% of expected responses within a month. However, we still need anyone who has yet to reply to do so - it is a legal requirement to have your name entered on the electoral register, and not being listed can affect your credit rating, as credit reference companies use the register for proof of address.”
