The police have more powers from today.

The police can now hand out 'instant tickets' (£60 fine plus three points) for various offences.

Offences which used to have to go before a magistrate court can now be dealt with at the roadside by the police - they will be both judge and jury!

Amongst the offences are 'tail gating' and driving in the 'wrong' lane on a motorway.

So, as Shaw Taylor (I think) used to say 'Be careful out there'.
