Private Eye has it as a prime Rotten Boroughs article.

Wiltshire Council has grabbed the Christmas Number One spot in Private Eye's 'Rotten Boroughs' column.

Available from all good newsagents for just £1.50.

The article commences 'Christmas is the time of giving - so Santa hats off to the Tories who run Wiltshire Council, who have just given themselves pay rises of more than 20 per cent.'

It finishes by reminding readers that Christmas is a time to reflect on moral issues and commenting that this is what Jane Scott seems to have done with her comment that the rise is 'Not for me, but the people who might come after me'.

Private Eye comments that such selflessness embodies the spirit of the season.
