Wiltshire 'misinterprets' 20mph policy.
This is not an April Fool.....
Wiltshire Council has been singled out by the national '20's plenty' campaign as a place where government guidance is being misinterpreted to discourage communities from getting 20 limits.'20's plenty' says 'In its latest guidance the DfT is very supportive of 20mph limits, yet some shire county 20mph policies do not reflect this. We have come across several instances, particularly in shire counties, where the DfT guidance is being quoted out of context in a manner which promotes a 'can't do' approach to speed reduction in communities. Guidance is being used to justify a half-hearted approach to making our streets better places to be for pedestrians, cyclists, older people, children and those who live there.''20's plenty' report goes into more detail and I have contacted the WC Cabinet member asking for his opinion on why WC is refusing to permit 20mph repeater roundels along Devizes Road. His reply is that '20's plenty' is wrong and WC is correctly interpreting the guidance notes....
