Parking ban for Stonehenge roundabout.

Another money earner for English Heritage.

Wiltshire Council has published an order to enforce parking restictions at the new roundabout at Airman's Corner.

Currently, you can avoid paying the £5 English Heritage parking fee by leaving your car on the road, as the existing yellow lines are not legally enforceable and won't be until early May. (They were painted by English Heritage's contractors 'in anticipation').

A Traffic Regulation Order has been advertised which will remove the loophole by restricting parking on the A360 to the west and south of the junction, on the B3069 to the north, and on the A344 between the roundabout and the coach park access.

This latter is the most contentious as it is now a 'road to nowhere' other than the EH car park entrance.

An objection to the proposal was received from a local resident, who saw it as an unnecessary restriction, the purpose of which was simply to make money for EH.

The 'old' stretch of the B3069 is NOT covered by the parking order.
