101 war veterans to be honoured.

Representatives from the Russian Embassy will attend two ceremonies to enable up to 101 veterans in the south west to receive their Ushakov medals.

A presentation ceremony was held at County Hall last September when Wiltshire veterans were presented with their Arctic Convoy Star Medals by Wiltshire MPs. At that time veterans were awaiting news as to whether they were also to receive the Ushakov Medal from the Russian Federation.

It has since been agreed that UK veterans were to be awarded this medal and so those from the south west will be at County Hall today.

As one of the political group leaders at WC I have been invited to attend the ceremonies and I will be delighted to do so and honour those who braved the arctic convoys during the the second World War.
