Green bin consultation result.

Well done if you supported Option1.

The question is 'Will WC take any notice of their consultation result?'.

Given the chance, Wiltshire Council may still charge you for garden waste collections. In west Wiltshire these have been free-of-charge since being introduced by West Wiltshire District Council.

Over the summer WC held one of its infamous 'consultations', offering three options. As it's not unreasonable to suspend green waste collections over the winter, I encouraged you to support the three-month break.

The options were:

•·A three month suspension of the kerbside garden waste service with no collections taking place in December, January and February.

•·A five month suspension of the kerbside garden waste service with no collections taking place in November, December, January, February and March.

•·To introduce a chargeable kerbside garden waste collection service instead of the current service.

Here are the results:

Option 1: 9492 votes, Option 2: 4716 votes, Option 3: 893 votes and 'None of the above': 416 votes.

So, a clear 'win' with only 6% supporting the paid-for service.

But, Wiltshire Council could still decide to ignore the consultation. The figures will be looked at firstly by the Environment Scrutiny Committee, which has no power except to make recommendations. Then the matter will be considered by the WC 'cabinet' in January next year, where the final decision will be made.

Opposition councillors will press the administration to listen to the electors opinion and implement option one.
