Not good news to come back from holiday to...

The WC cabinet member seems happy to put yet more lives at risk.  From speed this time rather than street lighting.

It would seem that he is happy for the HRR to have a 50mph speed limit but doesn't think that cars will actually reach that speed by the time they get to Middle Lane!

I have sent the following email but have only two days to get the decision looked at again.

'Hi,

Having returned from holiday I am dismayed to find the result of your deliberation re the HRR speed limit.

I note that the report states

'The bridleway is located near to the Fieldways roundabout and traffic exiting the roundabout is not anticipated to be doing 50mph at the point that any  crossing horses / pedestrians/cyclists will be seen.) It is believed speeds will be closer to 40-45 mph.  A 40 mph design speed requires a reduced forward visibility of 120 metres for vehicles (TD 42/95) and 211 metres for equestrian crossings (Table 3.4 in TA 90/05.  On-site measurements confirm this can be achieved.'

I find this truly amazing.  You ‘anticipate that cars won’t reach 50mph before Middle Lane.  On what basis is this ‘anticipation’ based please?  My car will easily reach 50mph before the brow after the Fieldways roundabout and I’m sure that most modern cars can do so also.

What are the distances for both 45mph and 50mph design speed please?  Does the road meet them?  I doubt it.

I would ask that you reconsider your decision.'

I am also intending to formally 'call in' the decision which would involve the issues being looked at again.

Wiltshire Council 'Where everybody matters'?  I think not and sincerely hope that 'everybody' doesn't become 'every body' after the first fatal accident on the road.
