Mind how you cross the road...

There will be no warning signs for the footpath crossings.

I have approached WC highways about the three footpath crossings and have received the following.

'Dear Cllr Clark,

Following your request for further consideration I emailed your request to, and have recently spoken with, the Council’s Traffic Engineering Manager.

With regards to the use of warning signs, the Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 4, Warning Signs explains the use of the warning signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations. It enables the correct sign to be used, and advises on the appropriate size and siting to ensure adequate warning of the hazard.

Sign diagrams 562 (“!” warning Sign) and 563 (“pedestrians crossing” text plate) should be used where the crossing point is unlikely to be apparent to drivers. Pedestrians waiting to cross Hilperton Relief Road are clearly visible to drivers and pedestrians have sufficient viability of approaching vehicles and therefore the use of these signs is not appropriate in this location.

I can confirm the Safety Audit Team were aware of the existence of the rights of way, as was the Designer of the scheme.

Regards,
Highway Development Control Engineer.'

In addition, the planting programme has now been started at the Fieldways end following what would appear to have been the application of weedkiller a few weeks ago.
