Wiltshire Council news.

From Ernie Clark, your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

A date for your diary - Thursday 26th November, 8.00pm at the village hall.  The parish council will be hosting a public meeting to hopefully get a Neighbourhood Plan off the ground.  A Neighbourhood Plan cannot stop development but it can help guide where it goes and how land within the area it covers is used.  Want to Save The Gap from being covered in housing within twenty years?  Then come along....

The process will be funded by the parish council but the actual plan has to be led by the people of the area it covers – it is not something which the parish council can actually compose.

The Community Governance Review continues its steady progress following a meeting in Trowbridge last month.  Details are available on the WC web site and I urge anyone effected to complete the on-line survey.

The Trowbridge meeting wasn’t as heated as it was expected to be, but it seemed pretty clear to me that those Hilperton residents who went along were a) well aware of the fact that they live in Hilperton and not Trowbridge and b) they want to keep it that way.

I have now attended six of these meetings covering Devizes, Trowbridge, Corsham, Salisbury, and Melksham.  With the exception of Devizes, there is a certain amount of tension between the town councils and surrounding parish councils.  It will be interesting to see what decisions are made as to whether or not parish boundaries will be moved.
