Hopefully it will be published.

I have sent the following to the paper...

Dear Sir,

Can I assure Mr. State that the local Wiltshire councillors do, indeed, care about the speeding issue along the newly titled B3105 (Leap Gate to you and me).

The problem they have is that the WC highways department seems to regard ‘government guidance’ on the setting of speed limits as ‘government instruction’ and consequently seem adverse to adjusting this guidance for local circumstances. Let us hope that the WC cabinet member intervenes and assists with getting the speed limit lowered sooner rather than later and certainly before someone is killed.

Part of the issue is that Leap Gate was always intended as a ‘distributor road’ and, as far back as the 1990’s, Hilperton Parish Council asked the question ‘How many distributor roads does it take to make a by-pass?’ I think that we now all know the answer; Leap Gate plus its extension plus the Hilperton Relief Road equals a Trowbridge eastern by-pass (funded by developers).

Looking ahead has WC learnt from this sorry saga?

In the same edition of your paper Mr. King highlights the revised planning application for 180 houses in the Hilperton Gap and urges people to send their objections to WC. How are these houses going to be accessed and which road will they be close to? The Hilperton Relief Road!! In other words the mistakes made along Leap Gate are set to be repeated rather than learnt from. The planning process is, truly, madness and not fit for purpose.

On that point, WC has still to publish its latest five year housing land supply figures. These are due this month and I have chased both the spatial planning lead officer and the planning cabinet member for confirmation that we will soon all know whether or not this area has its legally required supply figure. I regret to say that, to date, my email has not been answered or even acknowledged…..

Yours faithfully,
