A short while ago I was approached by the Chairman of Trowbridge Wanderers FC for any help I could give regarding youth football facilities in this area.
The problem was caused by Trowbridge Cricket Club not wishing the footballers to continue using their outfield and, as the 'open spaces' and 'recreation' portfolio holder I was his logical point of contact.
Knowing that the cricket area has never been used, and that no cricket club seems interested in 'adopting' it, I suggested it might be better used for football; with the caveat that, due to the size of the area, it would probably only suit up to 'under 11' matches.
Apart from using the space for a purpose it was designed for I also thought that, as the changing and shower facilities are within the Community Centre, it would get some extra people through their doors as well.
As with anything concerning the District Council things move slowly, but I am optimistic that something can be sorted out for next season.
If any local residents have any comments on the idea I would be more than happy to receive them via the 'Contact Me' link on the drop-down menu to the left of this news item.
