News for your Wiltshire Councillor.

Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.   Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

2017 won’t be seeing a repeat of the Brexit referendum or the US presidential election but it will see both the Wiltshire Council election and that for Hilperton Parish Council. Both of these will be on the first Thursday in May.

If you are interested in standing for the parish council please get in touch as the council is keen to get as wide a spread of members both by age and their location within the parish.

The Housing Needs Survey was successfully distributed and, hopefully, a good percentage was returned to Wiltshire Council so that the number crunching could begin. To date, no results have been published but I will chase WC to find out what the delay is.

The Neighbourhood Plan is proceeding at a good rate and the first draft was with Wiltshire Council before Christmas. There is still a lot of work to be done and, of course, regular reference to members of the public. The consultant is certainly earning his wages; originally it was thought that the NP would take about six years to complete but, at this rate, it will be done in about two!

The budget setting process for 2017/18 is underway at County Hall and it will be interesting to see where the Conservatives will wield their axe this time. They have suddenly realised that the current financial year will probably go over budget and I find it very disconcerting that the Cabinet member responsible for this sort of thing simply seems not to have his eye on the ball – perhaps he doesn’t intend to stand for election next year and has lost his edge?
