Big Council Tax increases and big cuts in services proposed by Wiltshire Council.
The WC budget papers have been published at http://cms.wiltshire.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?MId=11420&x=1
WC is proposing to increase Council Tax by 5%. This equates to approx. £88 for a Band D property.
When you add in the likely increases to Fire, Police and parish/town council precepts, many households could see their total council tax increase by over £100 per annum.
If you are one of the unlucky households being forced to move from Hilperton parish into Trowbridge parish, there will be an additional increase of about £100 a year for a Band D house due to the obscene council tax set by Lib Dem controlled Trowbridge Town Council. Can the fact that the town council is controlled by the Lib Dems have anything to do with the disgraceful (in my opinion) voting pattern of the Lib Dem councillors on Wiltshire Council last July? I would guess that any fair minded person would say 'Yes'. Time for a change of control at the Town Hall?
As well as the precept increase, charges for council services will increase too. There will be new charges for using the Household Recycling Centres for some materials, and don't be too surprised if their opening hours are cut further still. The cost of bulky waste collection from domestic properties will rise with most fees and charges seeing above-inflation rises.
By the way, a 1% rise in Concil Tax equates to about £2.1million extra income for WC.
