Mini motorbikes - a message from Trowbridge police.
"MINI MOTORBIKES (Mini Motos) and stand-up scooters with petrol engines appear to be a growing problem. We receive many calls and complaints about people riding mini motos in public places, roads etc. Popular areas are around the Canal and Staverton Marina. They cause anti social behaviour, noise pollution and have been involved in accidents. Many parents have bought these as presents for their children and with Christmas around the corner, they may be on many wish lists.

The fact is that if they are used on a public road or highway then they require the same documentation as any motor vehicle on a road (including MOT, insurance and road tax). Anyone using or permitting another to use is committing traffic related offences. Here the problem lies, as they are not built for use on a road. In essence, they can be used ON PRIVATE LAND ONLY.

Please bear in mind that these machines if found being used on a road can be seized by the police and you may face prosecution. We would like the community and neighbours to support each other on this issue. If you know people who use them, please refer them to the police for more information and please continue to inform us if the problem continues. PC 1746 Lee PELLING
