 Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

The countdown to the May local elections continues. Before long I am sure that you will start to receive the various flyers from candidates eliciting your support at the ballot box. If you want either a postal or proxy vote the applications have to be made by mid-April. More details are available at www.wiltshire.gov.uk

If you are interested in standing for the parish council please get in touch as the council is keen to get as wide a spread of members both by age and their location within the parish.

If you have ever thought about applying for ‘village green status’ for any of the land around Hilperton NOW is the time to do it. In May/June Wiltshire Council will be producing its Development Plan Document which is bound to propose allocating land around here for housing. Once this is published it is a ‘trigger event’ which stops any village green applications from being lodged.

It was originally due for publication some months ago but has been delayed several times. I might be being too cynical but I am presuming the delay is due to not wanting it published before the Wiltshire Council election! If that is correct, heaven only knows what is in store for the green areas of Wiltshire. No doubt the areas to the east and south of the county will fare well – as usual.

The long-awaited traffic survey is now promised for April with over ten locations due to be included. There is still one site on Hilperton Drive which needs to be included and I am in contact with WC highways to get this added to the location list.
