The problems at Cleanaway aren't finished yet.
This will comprise a ‘work to rule’ with no overtime. This will cause disruption to the waste bin collection service and is likely to result in delays and missed bins.

Cleanaway will be putting in place contingency arrangements to ensure disruption is minimised as far as possible. However, the ‘work to rule’ action is likely to affect collections across the whole district.

The Council will have special arrangements to take calls from residents about missed bins, and concerns they may have about health, hygiene and other matters. The Councils website will also be updated on a daily basis with the latest information about areas affected, advice, and progress in resolving the dispute.

A formal review meeting between Cleanaway and the GMB is scheduled to take place tomorrow, 12 September 2006, after which the work to rule may continue or cease.

During the disruption residents are asked to:

Put their bin out on their scheduled day of collection. If it is not emptied, to leave it at the kerbside until it has been emptied.

Double wrap food waste to minimise possible smells and hygiene problems.

Use their local household recycling centre if possible to dispose of excess household rubbish.

Not to stack black sacks beside the wheeled bins - they will not be collected. (The reasons for this relate to health and safety and agreed working practices).
