Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

My thanks to everyone who helped with my election campaign and those who voted for me. As in 2009 and 2013, I'm humbled by the election result. Literally, it could not have been done without you.

It was interesting to see that the two highest number of votes cast in the county were both for Independent candidates.

The number of votes cast for me increased from 1,329 in 2013 to 1,342 but my majority decreased from 1,211 to 1,134. Turnout in Hilperton was 50% eight years ago, 41% four years ago and 43% this year. That compares well to the Wiltshire average of 39%.

With over 2,000 houses in Hilperton Division, I was able to visit a very good percentage but did not manage to get around to talk with everyone. My thanks to those of you that e-mailed me, phoned me or took the time to have a chat on the doorstep.

The Wiltshire Council draft Development Plan Document is due to finally come into the public realm when the agenda for the 20th June Cabinet meeting is published on the 13th June. If you have internet access do please check this document out. Hopefully it will not be bad news for this area but I fear that it will be.

Whilst on planning, the Hilperton Neighbourhood Plan is out for ‘Regulation 14’ consultation. The consultation period runs until the 30th June and there will representatives of the steering group at the village fete on the 10th June. More details are available on the Hilperton Parish Council web site.

The results for the traffic survey have not been released yet but there is a Community Area Transport Group meeting in June when I hope they will be made available.
