Wiltshire Council new extra top officer could cost another £150k pa.

Yet another shake-up at the top of Wiltshire Council is planned.

Baroness Scott has announced that the authority plans to appoint two new corporate directors - who could be earning salaries of up to £150k a year each.

This is before 'add ons' such as National Insurance and pension costs of course.

Not long ago Baroness Scott abolished the post of Chief Executive as a cost saving measure.  'Strong and stable leadership' some might say.  But it would seem that she is now literally having to count the cost of that decision.

It has already been mooted in some quarters whether this new post is needed due to the amount of time that Baroness Scott spends at the House of Lords but this surely cannot be the reason.

The idea means that WC will have four corporate directors, instead of three, adding 33% to their cost.  Way to go, Jane, I just loving paying my council tax to see it spent on another £100k+ officer post - no wonder the streets in Hilperton, and elsewhere, are covered in weeds and we never see a street sweeper.

I would suggest kicking Jane and her Tory mates out at election time but, of course, she was returned with an increased majority only a month or two back.  It would be interesting to see what the result would have been if the WC election had been after the General Election rather than during the 'Theresa May bubble' period.

Still, the Tories have their plans underway to recoup that £150k - build on as many greenfield sites around towns as they can and just watch that council tax come rolling into their coffers.....   With apologies to Harry Enfield, 'Loads of money!!'
