Two requests were considered at CATG last week.

The Trowbridge CATG (Community Area Transport Group) had the results of two surveys relating to Hilperton Drive.

The first was with a view to lowering the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph between the rugby club and the Ashton Road roundabout.  The survey showed an 85th percentile speed (this is the speed at which 85% of the traffic travels at or below) of 47.4mph.  Based on this, and the fact that the road does not meet the criteria for a 40mph speed limit, the recommendation was that the speed limit should not be amended.

The second was in relation to a suggestion that a formal pedestrian crossing be installed near to the junction with Helpswell Road.  The survey showed that the majority of the pedestrians crossed at the corner of the junction rather than using the existing pedestrian refuge island and only 19 people crossed the road during the day of the survey.  6,799 vehicles passed at an average speed of 42.5mph.  The recommendation was that the existing crossing provision is sufficient and that people should be encouraged to use the existing refuge island rather than trying to cross Hilperton drive in one go.

There was a similar finding for a requested pedestrian crossing of Leap Gate.
