Your Independent councillor.

The parish council has arranged a special meeting at the village hall on Tuesday 5th September. Start time 7.30pm. The meeting will be to discuss the PC response to the Wiltshire Council draft DPD and to ensure that the PC reflects the wishes of the parish.

The following link will help you cut through the hundreds of pages of the WC report which probably won’t interest you…..   Items 1k and 18 relate to Hilperton.

Marsh Road / Hill Street / Church Street are finally going to see carriageway resurfacing and patching from the junction with Hammond Way at The Kings Arms to the junction with Trowbridge Road at the Lion & Fiddle. The work is due to start on 21 September and it is anticipated that the closure will be required daily between the hours of 07.30 and 17.30 until 10 October.

The highway people at County Hall have started to interpret the information from the recent vehicle counts and speed surveys. They advise that, in their opinion, the speed surveys demonstrated no speeding concerns (with average speeds on Hill Street and Church Street being well below 30mph) and that the speeds recorded do not quite meet the requirements for a 20mph zone.

However, they are suggesting removing areas of double yellow lines and the intention then would be to undertake further speed surveys following the removal and subsequently implement a 20mph zone, as they believe that the additional on street parking will further encourage lower vehicle speeds through the village. As I have said repeatedly ‘The best form of traffic calming is parked vehicles’. Things are at a very early stage and I will ensure that everyone is kept advised of what is going on.

You might have noticed that opening hours for customer service calls and reception desks at Wiltshire Council have changed. Both have changed from 8.30am – 5.30pm to 9am – 5pm. People will still be able to enter the hubs from 8.30am to 5.30pm if they wish to use the facilities. Another customer ‘improvement’ courtesy of Baroness Jane Scott OBE and her cabinet at County Hall.
