Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

Exciting news on the Hilperton Neighbourhood Development Plan (HNDP).  The referendum will be held on the 1st November.

There will be two polling stations (the village hall, and the Tin Church) open for the ‘usual hours’ (7.00am to 10.00pm). In addition, postal and proxy voting will be allowed.  The referendum is only open to those in Hilperton Parish. If you live south of Hilperton Drive you will NOT have a vote.

I believe that polling cards will be sent by WC in the run-up to the referendum.

The one question will be ‘Do you want Wiltshire Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Hilperton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’

As I have said before, the HNDP is not as ‘firm’ regarding some parts of the parish as many members of the Steering Group, including me, would have liked but the consultant was VERY firm in his advice. How you vote is obviously your decision but I would urge you to vote ‘Yes’.  If the plan is not ‘made’ then all of Hilperton, and the surrounding countryside (including the whole of the Gap), will be seen as ‘fair game’ by developers. The HNDP will reinforce the existing Wiltshire Council Core Strategy.

The plan and its supporting documents can be found at and then click on ‘neighbourhood plan’ on the top menu bar.

The result of the referendum should be known that night.
