Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

My apologies to the residents of Marshmead for not arriving until just before 2 o'clock for their celebration back in September. This was the time I had in my diary and the rearranged 1 o'clock start was somehow missed between myself and the organiser.  That said, it was nice to have a chat with various people including one of the original builders who still lives in the house he built. I hope everyone enjoyed the afternoon even though it was rather wet! The plaque by the tree looks splendid and is a nice reminder of all the hard work that was put in by local men 60 years ago.

A final reminder that the Hilperton Neighbourhood Development Plan (HNDP) referendum will be held on Thursday the 1st November.

The two polling stations (the village hall, and the Tin Church) will be open between 7.00am and 10.00pm. You should have received your polling cards by now (but you do not need them to vote) and, if you have a postal vote, you should have received your voting packs by now. The referendum is only open to those in Hilperton Parish.

The one question is ‘Do you want Wiltshire Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Hilperton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’ How you vote is obviously your decision but I would urge you to vote ‘Yes’. If the plan is not ‘made’ then all of Hilperton, and the surrounding countryside (including the whole of the Gap), will be seen as ‘fair game’ by developers. The HNDP will reinforce the existing Wiltshire Council Core Strategy.

The plan and its supporting documents can be found at and then click on ‘neighbourhood plan’ on the top menu bar or I have a few hard copies of the plan if you do not have internet access.

The result of the referendum will be known that night and the result will be posted on both mine and the parish council web sites.
