Trowbridge hospital to close.
Not un-expected news and still no maternity provision.
The proposals will result in a massive change to health provision in this area, the main points being:-
Trowbridge hospital will close.
Warminster hospital will be upgraded.
Trowbridge will receive a new Primary Care Centre, probably funded by a group of local GPs. There will also be an improved minor injuries unit open 24 hours a day.
There will be a 14 bed community maternity unit in Chippenham.
These 'improvements', or cost saving measures as most will call them, will see the county town without patient in-care or a maternity unit. The population of the Trowbridge area is due to continue expanding for some years to come and yet we will have to travel for almost all non-minor medical treatment.
These measures are, in my opinion, beneath contempt for many, many reasons, yet are certain to be rubber stamped at the meeting next week.
I suppose we are supposed to be grateful that we were 'consulted' about these changes - what a pity that no notice was taken of what we said!
