Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

The inquiry into the Wiltshire Housing Site Allocations Plan proposal for the Hilperton Gap took place in early April. My thanks to the many members of the public who attended – it was the largest attendance by far.

Myself, the Hilperton Gap Action Group, and the Hilperton Neighbourhood Plan all spoke but the majority was presented by George Bunting (of HGAG) who made a very good job of it. Wiltshire Council was unable to answer many of the points raised which didn’t come as much of a surprise. It will provide ‘written answers’ to the Inspector. The Inspector appeared to listen to what was said and took copious notes. His findings will not be known until he publishes his report in a few months time.

The plan by the parish council to install de-fibrillators at various venues around the village is finally taking shape with the first undertaking signed with the local NHS ambulance service. The first de-fib should be at the village hall. The Tin Church, Lion & Fiddle, the school, and Marsh Road Stores should then follow over the next six months or so.

Wiltshire Police is recruiting Special Constables at the moment. These unpaid volunteers carry a warrant card and have all the powers of a full-time police officer. One of my ‘children’ is a Special and really enjoys it. More info is at https://specials.wiltshire.police.uk/

If you know of anywhere in the parish that might need a grit bin in winter (sorry to mention snow and ice now) please contact the clerk to the parish council. Now is the time for the PC to be looking ahead to next winter! What a thought as I write this with the sun warming everyone……
