Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.
The parish now has a second defibrillator. It was installed recently at the Tin Church in Horse Road. It is under the porch of the main church entrance and is available 24/7. Again, it is hoped that it will never be needed, but it is there if required.
The Inspector for the Wiltshire Council housing plan has made his preliminary report. As expected, it is not good news for the Gap. He has said that he feels that the Trowbridge side of Elizabeth Way is able to take just over 350 houses.
The Hilperton side of the road is not scheduled for any housing and the Neighbourhood Plan has said that this side of the Gap should remain as open space. Of course, if the uncultivated land was to gain Village Green status too, that would just about seal its future as not being available for houses. A few more people are needed to get the process underway. If you are interested, please get in touch with me.
There is no sign (as I write this) of who the new Tory leader will be at County Hall. One or two names are being bandied about but neither of them is local to this area!
The possibility of Devizes Road being closed to through traffic has moved forward a little. Wiltshire Council highways has said that the parish council needs to conduct a survey as a first step and this will, I expect, be discussed at the July meeting of the parish council.
You may have seen that there is some worry about investment funds run by Neil Woodford. I have asked the WC finance department whether any of our money is at risk. The answer was ‘No’.
