Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

At its September meeting, the parish council co-opted three new members. I’m pleased to say that their number included new members from both Paxcroft Mead and Hilperton Marsh areas.

Work continues to get another two defibrillators in the village. Hopefully a meeting will take place in the next few weeks with the new headteacher at Hilperton Primary School to find out whether they have somewhere to site a defib that will be available 24/7.

Wiltshire Council highways has provided a few possibilities for closing Devizes Road to through traffic, or making part of it one way, and a survey will hopefully be distributed this month to residents of Devizes Road and Stourton Park. In addition, WC has provided a suggestion for changing the junction at Marsh Road/Hammond Way. Both these ideas are to stop through traffic from using the village rather than Elizabeth Way.

Trowbridge Area Board met recently. Amongst the agenda items were grants for two Hilperton based bodies. Both were successful with Hilperton United FC getting £995 for new goal posts at the village hall, and Hilperton Marsh PCC getting £1,675 towards new heating for the part of the Tin Church used by community groups.

Also at the Area Board was a representative from the police cybercrime unit. Amongst his warnings was not to ‘like’, for instance, a café whilst you are there. The example had police in a nearby van who intercepted the ‘like’ and, when the customer received his/her coffee, it not only had their name written on it but items such as their date of birth, mother’s name, first school they attended etc. Be aware!!

Distribution of the latest issue of my Hilperton Update newsletter continues; if you haven’t received one yet it should arrive shortly!
