Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

Although it is early to start Christmas greetings, I hope that everyone has a great Christmas and a positive 2020.

The results of the Devizes Road survey were discussed by the parish council at its November meeting. The PC will now contact Wiltshire Council to move things onward.

The metro count survey of Devizes Road, Trowbridge Road, Church Street, Hill Street, and Marsh Road has been carried out. WC will now need to ‘crunch’ the figures to define traffic patterns and see whether a section of the old ‘main road’ through the village is eligible for a new 20mph speed restriction.

Plans for an extension to the facilities at Doric Park (the rugby club) are moving closer. Trowbridge Town Council (TTC) sent an officer to the November PC meeting to explain in detail what is intended. The planning application will probably be with WC by the time you read this. It is an exciting development but a shame that it cannot be based in the town rather than creating yet more car usage to get to the facility. Hardly ‘green’ and yet TTC has declared a climate emergency.

There are two other possible developments that Hilperton might see in 2020.

The first is for the Church Farm site, the second is for another solar farm alongside the exiting one near Marsh Farm alongside the canal.

Church Farm had a full planning permission for redevelopment in the past but this has now lapsed and so any new owner of the site can, if they wish, start from a blank sheet of paper.
