Wiltshire (and Hilperton Parish) Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

Well, here we all are in the ninth(?) week of lockdown as I write this.

I have received a few comments/complaints about groups of people gathering on the village hall ‘green’. I understand the frustration that this causes but any gathering that goes against the government advice/rules need to be reported to the police; ideally whilst the incident is taking place.

A quick reminder that if you need assistance during the Covid-19 issue, and have no one to help you, please contact either Cllr. Boreham on 07920 042838 or Cllr. Turner on 01225 766522.

I am advised by the leader of Wiltshire Council that Wiltshire still has plenty of hospital capacity and the emergency morgues have still not been needed. WC is operating very well to serve those most badly affected by this crisis but it is likely to suffer severe financial difficulties in the future.  Whether, or how, the government will assist nobody knows. A possibility would be the lifting of the ‘cap’ on councul tax and then a large increase in what we pay directly to WC.

On a more positive note, all the allotments in the parish are all in use and look to be in fine fettle. If you wish to be added to the waiting list, please contact the parish clerk via the PC web site.

These are strange times but, if we all behave in a sensible way, I am sure that things will soon get back to something resembling ‘normal’ with more shops due to open soon.

In the meantime – please STAY ALERT.
