Wiltshire (and Hilperton Parish) Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

I was going to write that things seem to be improving on the Covid scene, and then we are suddenly told that anyone returning from Spain has to self-isolate!  I’m sure this will be explained to us over the next day or two.

‘Social’ matters have moved a step closer to normal with pubs/clubs reopening.

The Lion & Fiddle, the village hall club, The Red Admiral, Paxcroft Mead Community Centre, and The King’s Arms are all open again but with changed times. Do try to support these venues as they will all be struggling to make a profit. Please remember the old maxim to ‘Use it or lose it’. Check their web sites for when to visit…..

Castle Place leisure centre should reopen this month but Clarendon is due to stay closed until January 2021. Work on repairing the swimming pool building continues at a cost running well into seven figures.

The annual elector canvass is underway. If you can respond on-line this is the quickest and easiest way to do so.

Both the parish and Wiltshire Council have their ‘all out’ elections next May – if you aren’t registered to vote you will have no say in who represents you for the next four years.

The booking system for the recycling centre seems to have settled down and, when I have visited, it is working well so long as you are able to carry your own waste up the steps.

The parish council ‘help’ service continues but, as things start to unwind this may be able to begin to take a small step back. In the meantime – please STAY ALERT.
