Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

With the parish pubs/clubs reopening, it’s good to see that the two or three I visit seem quite busy. Do please support them as they need your custom!! The list is quite short; the Lion & Fiddle, the village hall club, the Red Admiral, Paxcroft Mead Community Centre, and the King’s Arms. All are open but with changed times. Check their web sites for when to visit…..

If you haven’t responded yet to the annual elector canvass, please do. If you can respond on-line this is the quickest and easiest way to do so. Both the parish and Wiltshire Council are due to have their ‘all out’ elections next May – if you aren’t registered to vote you will have no say in who represents you for the next four years.

The Non-Statutory Public Inquiry into village green (VG) status for ‘Church Field’ now has a date – the 29th and 30th September. Due to Covid it will be held on-line. It will be the first time the Inspector has held an inquiry this way, so it might prove interesting. If you wish to ‘spectate’ please contact sally.madgwick@wiltshire.gov.uk and she will arrange for you to receive whatever details are required.

The applicants for the VG application have arranged an on-line survey for current/past users of the field. I’m not sure of the address as I write this, but please contact me if you would like to complete the survey and I will pass your details to the applicants.

WC has applied to the government for funding for an improved cycle link between Trowbridge and Melksham via Hilperton and Semington. Should the application be successful it would see Devizes Road blocked to through traffic. I have contacted WC to remind them of the survey undertaken by the parish council last October on this topic.
