Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

Welcome to my May e-newsletter which, I hope, will not be my penultimate one!

As I write this, there are only a couple of days to go until the four-yearly WC election; polling day is Thursday 6th May. Polling stations will be open between 7.00am and 10.00pm.

There will not be a formal election for the parish council as 13 nominations were received for the 13 seats available – accordingly, all 13 are deemed ‘elected’ and training is already being offered. There will, however, be a slight change to the membership of the council.

The WC election is contested with me and two other candidates standing. I have no idea where the others live as both declare, on the ballot paper, their home address as ‘Address in Wiltshire’. Your guess is as good as mine. Marlborough? Salisbury? Chippenham? Malmesbury?

If you have a postal vote, but have not yet returned it to County Hall, you are entitled to take it to either of the polling stations (the village hall, Whaddon Lane or the Tin Church, Horse Road). Don’t forget that you also have a chance to vote for the next PCC too.

The world faces many challenges, and the solutions start within the community. Your voice needs to be heard, and voting is a fundamental right, the first step, a simple act of inclusion to influence Wiltshire. Whilst I hope that you will support me, I would sooner you vote for someone else than not vote at all. Or, spoil the paper if you feel unrepresented by any of the candidates!
