Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Your Independent councillor for Hilperton.

Welcome to my June e-newsletter.

Firstly, many thanks to those who voted for me in the WC election last month, returning me with a near 1,000 vote majority (78% of the vote). My thanks also to anyone who voted for one of the other candidates; you cannot have democracy without people being able to freely express their thoughts at the ballot box.

Hilperton had a very good turnout of 45% compared to only 32% in some nearby areas. Our figure was higher than the county average and shows, I hope, that residents take an interest in what happens in Hilperton Division.

I am working to increase the ‘circulation’ of the e-newsletter. If you know of anyone who might be interested in receiving a copy, please ask them to contact me.

Wiltshire Council is still working on its response to the Wiltshire Council Local Plan 2036. I am due to have a meeting with the new leader of WC to discuss the plan and I am optimistic that the new Cabinet member for planning will also be present.

Speeding continues to be a major issue in the village. Hilperton is due to have the shared SID (speed indicator device) later this year. In addition, Communoty Speed Watch is due to re-start but new volunteers are required. Without volunteers, the system can’t operate.

The planning application for the proposed solar farm near the end of Whaddon Lane is open for comments. The application number is PL/2021/03061. The parish council will be considering the application at its meeting on the 15th June.
