Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Welcome to my December e-newsletter.

Firstly, I hope everyone has an happy, and safe, Christmas and New Year.

The parish council working group (looking at the land affected by the suggested 2,500+ houses for the Marsh Road/Whaddon Lane/New Terrace (Staverton) area) continues its good work with a bat survey still possibly on the menu. It reports back to the parish council on a regular basis. If anyone would be interested in joining the group please let me know.

Wiltshire Council seems intent to spend (waste) £600k of government funding on the ‘new’ cycle way to Melksham via Semington. Apparently there is insufficient money for a separate cycle path alongside the A361 and so WC is intending to ‘improve’ the two by-ways linking Hilperton and Semington. Neither parish council is in favour, the local councillors don’t think it a good idea, and WC seems unable to show that they have any evidence that the ‘improvements’ will generate any new cycle/pedestrian traffic! Still, it’s only money….our money!

Another planning application has been decided for the site(s) west of Elizabeth Way.

The planning application for the second Whaddon Lane solar farm will probably go to the January or February meeting of WC’s Western Area Planning Committee. The recommendation from the planning officer is likely to be to grant planning permission.
