Taxi fares could be set to increase.
Last year the proposals weren't adopted, but this time?
Itis being suggested that the 'flag drop' goes up from £2.00 to £2.10 and the cost per mile increases from £1.50 to £1.55.
In addition, the number of tariffs will change by the deletion of tariff 2, which normally runs from midnight to 2am. There would simply be a daytime (07.00 to 00.59) and night-time (01.00 to 06.59) rate.
Not all operators are happy with the changes. Beta Taxis have responded to the council's consultation on the changes by saying that an increase in fares could mean lower trade, especially by pensioners, and that drivers would have to stay out later to earn a decent living. Micks Taxis of Westbury say that the trade is not buoyant at the moment as shown by the number of taxis stood doing nothing during the day.
The meeting starts at 7.00pm in the council chamber at Bradley Road and is open to the public.
