Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Just a short newsletter after a month or two with no real news to give you.

My Spring/Summer newsletter should be dropping through your letterbox (if you live in Hilperton Division) over the next few weeks.

The Hilperton Area Action Group (HAAG) is continuing its good work regarding the possible extra 2,000 houses which Wiltshire Council mooted in the draft Local Plan. A flyer from HAAG should be with you shortly.

The timetable for the ‘final WC proposals’ Local Plan has slipped again. It will probably go to full WC council later this year with the public examination during 2023.

Whether or not the 2,000 houses get to the ‘final’ version of the plan, Hilperton Parish Council (HPC) will (most likely) have to pay for a barrister to represent the parish council opinion. If the 2,000 houses remain in the ‘final’ plan, HPC will need professional assistance to fight the scheme; if the houses are removed it will need to ensure the houses remain ‘out’ of the plan as various developers/landowners will fight to get the houses back in…. The cost for this could be around £40k but the parish council has budgeted for this in the 2022/23 budget.

Finally, please pop along to the village Jubilee fete on the 4th June. It will be hosted at the village hall in Whaddon Lane commencing at 13.00. The event has been underwritten by HPC and will have slides etc. for children, all at no cost. There may also be a surprise for any Hilperton adults attending. The new piece of play equipment (cost approx. £23k) should also be installed in the play area by then and available for use. £18k of the cost came from HPC with £5k from the Trowbridge Area Board of Wiltshire Council.

In all, HPC has budgeted £30k (new play equipment, plus the fete cost, plus the cost of a celebration mug for every child attending either the primary or pre-school, etc.) for the year of celebration for the platinum jubilee.
