Welcome to my August e-newsletter.
The parish council ‘working group’ is continuing to liaise with Semington PC, Staverton PC, and Trowbridge Town Council regarding the issue of the ‘suggested’ 2500+ houses for the Marsh Road/Whaddon Lane/New Terrace (Staverton) area.
Work is progressing with regard to the environmental implications of the suggested development, especially bats, and the transport problems that would inevitably follow the housing. It is not expected that anything formal will happen at County Hall until late this year or early 2023.
The would-be developers of the land at the eastern end of Devizes Road held a public ‘consultation’ meeting last week at the village hall. Whether any notice will be taken of the feedback they received is another matter. There is grave concern that this application could be a ruse to open-up the land to the north of the site for housing. The fact that it is outside the Village Policy Limit, and was not allocated for housing in the Neighbourhood Plan, seems to be irrelevant to the both the land owner and the developer.
There is an ‘informal’ consultation being undertaken by WC regarding footpath HILP54 as the developer of the land (on the west side of Elizabeth Way) wishes to move the path so that it runs alongside the B road. Apart from the location of the diversion, the route will be longer and so I have formally objected to the scheme. In the long term the developer will probably get their way but an application that has been objected to has to follow a more legal procedure.
